This project is about connecting openings – portals – to places to which I travel daily.
It is about routine and the unexpected that can occur within that routine.
Each day, the plan is to enter a certain number of predictable ‘doorways’ – the path on your way to work, the path on your way to school, for example. Once you enter, you are in an unpredictable environment in which anything can occur; you can encounter a stranger, your mode of transportation can be stopped or delayed, you can meet an important person – anything can happen.
The idea of being interwoven in the unexpected within the expected – the mysteries that occur every day while interacting in your usual manner within your routines is the idea of ‘Portals’.
This is how I tend to approach the paths I take every day; open to the unexpected, looking for the unpredictable, excited for opportunities of the ‘new’.
‘Portals’ offers an invitation to enter the unusual within the usual. They are simple doorways that hint at the unknown being inside.
The openings are represented in black tape on a white wall.
